Delfts blauw: de hele wereld kent het voor ons land zo iconische aardewerk. Dit boek brengt het verhaal van bijzondere topstukken die voor de eerste keer zijn samengebracht in een tentoonstelling en in dit boek. Zo kunt u kennismaken met de tijd waarin het beroemde koningspaar Willem en Mary het mooiste Delfts blauw ooit lieten maken: Koninklijk Blauw. Van metershoge bloempiramides tot tuinvazen en confiturenschalen: in de late zeventiende eeuw werd het mooiste tinglazuuraardewerk van Europa gemaakt bij de plateelbakkerijen in Delft. De bloeiperiode van Delfts aardewerk valt samen met de regeerperiode van Willem III (1650-1702) en Mary II Stuart (1662-1695). Zij verzamelden naast Chinees porselein dan ook dit fraaie, verfijnde keramiek uit Delft. Sterker nog, ze waren belangrijke pleitbezorgers. In het bijzonder Mary gold als een ware ambassadeur voor Delfts aardewerk en zij liet dit in opdracht maken bij plateelbakkerij De Grieksche A. Delfts aardewerk kent ook eigentijdse koninklijke uitingen, zoals het nieuwe staatsbanketservies ‘Blossom Panache’ uit 2017, waarvan enkele stukken in het boek worden getoond. Of bijvoorbeeld in een installatie geïnspireerd op wandbespanningen voor de Blauwe Salon van Paleis Huis ten Bosch in 2019.

Delft blue: the whole world knows the earthenware that is so iconic for The Netherlands. This book tells the story of masterpieces brought together for the first time in an exhibition and in this book. This way you can get acquainted with the time when the famous royal couple Willem and Mary had the most beautiful Delft blue ever made: Royal Blue. From meter-high flower pyramids to garden vases and sweetmeat sets: in the late seventeenth century the most beautiful tin-glazed earthenware in Europe was made at the earthenware factories in Delft. The heyday of Delft earthenware coincides with the reign of William III (1650-1702) and Mary II Stuart (1662-1695). In addition to Chinese porcelain, they also collected this beautiful, refined ceramic from Delft. In fact, they were important patrons. Mary in particular was regarded as a true ambassador for Delftware and she commissioned many objects from De Grieksche A factory. Delftware also has contemporary royal expressions, such as the new state banquet service ‘Blossom Panache’ from 2017.
