D528. Polychrome Oval Brush Back

Delft, circa 1730

Painted with a carnation, a peony and other flowers and foliage in a two-handled bottle vase within a trellis diaper border interrupted with four panels of flowering branches above a blue dentil band at the edge, the top of the rim pierced with two suspension holes, and the unglazed underside pierced with holes for the bristles.
