D1642. Pair of Blue and White Tobacco Jars with Brass Covers

Delft, circa 1785

Each with a claw mark in blue for De Klaauw (The Claw) Factory

Each boldly painted on the front with a cartouche enclosed within foliate scrolls and patterned panels issuing further foliate scrolls and whorls, surmounted by an urn of flowers and leaves, and inscribed either RAPPEE DEHOLLANDEE or STRAASBÚRGER; the hammered brass covers surmounted by a mushroom-shaped knop.

Height: 26.5 cm. (10 7/16 in.); overall: 31 cm. (12 3/16 in.)
